There is no shortage of true wireless earbuds on the market today, but finding a pair that combines comfort, awareness of your surroundings and enjoyable sound quality remains surprisingly difficult. Open-ear designs have grown in popularity for those who spend time walking, exercising or simply dislike the feeling of traditional in-ear buds sealing the ear canal. The OPPO Enco Clip2 enters this increasingly competitive space with an elegant clip-on design, promising premium audio, impressive battery life and a level of comfort that encourages all-day wear.
Having spent a fair time using the Enco Clip2 across music, movies, phone calls and everyday tasks, I came away pleasantly surprised by just how refined the overall experience proved to be. The first thing that stands out is the design. Rather than sitting inside the ear canal, each earbud gently clips around the ear, positioning the speaker just outside the opening. It is an approach that initially feels unusual, particularly if you’ve only ever worn conventional earbuds, but the adjustment period is remarkably brief. Within seconds, I genuinely forgot I was wearing them.
That is perhaps the Enco Clip2’s greatest achievement. Even after extended listening sessions, they remained exceptionally comfortable. There was no pressure inside the ear, no fatigue and none of the irritation that many in-ear earbuds eventually create. For anyone who struggles with silicone tips or simply prefers to remain aware of their surroundings, the comfort here is genuinely first-class.
Despite their lightweight construction, the earbuds remained securely in place throughout normal daily activities. Walking, household chores and general movement never left me feeling as though they might work loose, while the open-ear design meant conversations and environmental sounds remained naturally audible without needing to remove an earbud.
Naturally, an open-ear design introduces certain compromises when it comes to audio reproduction. Without creating a seal inside the ear canal, physics inevitably limits the amount of low-frequency energy that can be delivered. What surprised me, however, was just how capable the bass response proved to be. No, these are not going to rival a premium pair of noise-cancelling in-ear earbuds for outright impact, but they delivered noticeably more low-end presence than I had expected. Bass lines carried genuine weight, kick drums retained satisfying punch, and modern pop and electronic music remained enjoyable without sounding thin or anaemic. OPPO has clearly invested considerable effort into extracting as much performance as possible from the open-ear architecture.
The remainder of the frequency range is equally well balanced. Vocals remain clear and forward, instruments are well separated, while podcasts and spoken content sound crisp and articulate. Classical and acoustic recordings particularly benefit from the spacious presentation that naturally accompanies an open-ear design.
OPPO also includes several sound presets within the companion application. After experimenting with each of them, I found myself consistently returning to the Dynaudio profile. It provided the most natural overall presentation, balancing warmth, clarity and detail without becoming overly analytical or artificially boosted. For everyday listening, it simply sounded the most refined. The companion app itself deserves praise for its straightforward design. Pairing was quick, controls were clearly laid out, and locating features required very little exploration. Rather than overwhelming users with endless menus, OPPO has focused on making the most commonly used functions immediately accessible, resulting in an interface that feels polished and intuitive. That said, there is still room for improvement.
While the supplied equaliser options and presets will satisfy most listeners, I would welcome a considerably more capable graphic equaliser. Hearing varies from person to person, and many of us develop unique hearing characteristics over time. A more granular equaliser with additional frequency bands would allow users to tailor the sound far more precisely to suit their own hearing profile rather than relying solely on a handful of fixed presets.
Call quality proved equally impressive. Voices remained clear on both ends of conversations, and the microphone system consistently isolated speech well enough that callers reported little difficulty understanding me. For anyone regularly taking calls while walking or working, this is an area where the Enco Clip2 performs with quiet confidence.
One of the more intriguing additions is the real-time translation feature, which uses the earbuds alongside the companion app and Google Translate to facilitate face-to-face conversations in different languages. As you would expect, there is a small delay while speech is captured by the earbuds, passed to the phone, processed through Google Translate in the cloud, and then transmitted back to the earbuds in the selected output language. Fortunately, the pause is brief enough that it never feels awkward during a conversation, as each person naturally waits for the other to finish speaking before responding. It is not quite the seamless experience science fiction has promised us, but it is surprisingly practical for casual interactions and travel.
Beyond its intended purpose, the translation mode also proved to be an entertaining way to gauge its performance. Listening to Japanese anime while wearing the earbuds and comparing the translated audio with the on-screen subtitles was an unexpectedly enjoyable experiment. While no automated translation system is flawless, the results were often impressively close, demonstrating just how far real-time language processing has come. It may not replace a human interpreter, but as both a genuinely useful travel companion and an enjoyable technology showcase, the feature adds another dimension to the Enco Clip2 beyond simply listening to music.
Battery life also lived up to expectations during my testing. While exact figures naturally depend upon listening volume and usage patterns, I never found myself worrying about unexpectedly running out of power. Combined with the lightweight charging case, the overall package feels well suited to commuting, travel or long working days.
Perhaps the Enco Clip2’s biggest strength is that it never tries to pretend to be something it isn’t. These are not designed to replace high-end closed earbuds in noisy aircraft cabins, nor are they intended to deliver room-shaking bass. Instead, they excel at providing an enjoyable listening experience while allowing you to remain connected to the world around you. For many people, that balance will prove considerably more valuable than complete isolation.
Overall, the OPPO Enco Clip2 is an impressively polished example of what open-ear earbuds can achieve. Outstanding comfort, secure fit, surprisingly capable bass performance and an intuitive companion app combine to create a product that is easy to recommend. Although I’d like to see OPPO introduce a more sophisticated graphic equaliser for users with individual hearing requirements, that remains a relatively minor criticism in an otherwise highly accomplished package. If comfort, situational awareness and enjoyable everyday listening are your priorities, the Enco Clip2 delivers on all three with admirable confidence.
