Seiko Epson Corporation (Epson) agree that EARTH HOUR, organised by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), is a moment of unity that brings the world together, shines a spotlight on nature loss and the climate crisis and inspires millions more to act and advocate for urgent change. A new partnership between Epson and Earth Hour aims to inspire millions of people to take energy-saving action for the benefit of the planet.
Epson Australia and Epson New Zealand are undertaking some key initiatives around and beyond Earth Hour as Epson A/NZ MD Craig Heckenberg explained, “Epson is deeply committed to making a meaningful difference in promoting sustainability both in the environment and the communities we serve. Earth Hour and the continued local sustainability initiatives we are undertaking are key to and underscore that commitment.”
Since its beginning 17 years ago, EARTH HOUR has been known for the “lights off” moment – a symbolic event to show our collective support for the planet. Held every year on the last Saturday of March, it engages supporters in more than 190 countries and territories, all taking action to ensure a brighter future for people and the planet.
In 2023, EARTH HOUR stepped things up, breathing new life into the movement and mission to create the Biggest Hour for Earth “Hour Bank”. In 2023, EARTH HOUR achieved more than 410,000 hours pledged on its Hour Bank – an online counter of planet-positive activities.
Epson and EARTH HOUR together share the vision to encourage every individual action. Both will increase awareness around EARTH HOUR 2024 and Hour Bank and introduce daily energy saving action that is one of the actions can be done easily.
Epson will conduct this activity throughout the Epson group offices worldwide, to reach people in more countries and areas.
Epson publicly committed to becoming carbon negative and underground resource free in its Environmental Vision 2050. Epson has also implemented various initiatives to EARTH HOUR’s goal in achieving decarbonisation, such as increasing the efficiency of electricity use and switching to 100% renewable electricity at all Epson Group sites.
Epson also believes that creating and providing products and services that consume less electricity is connected to reducing the environmental burden on society. Through the partnership, Epson hopes to expand further understanding and empathy of energy saving actions toward achieving decarbonisation.
Global President Yasunori Ogawa said, “Epson is proud to be the first International Partner for EARTH HOUR. Since our founding, we have upheld the mission of coexistence with local communities as a manufacturing company that coexists with nature and people’s lives. While fulfilling our mission as a company, we also believe that the importance for each of us to take action as a member of society eventually makes big differences. Through this partnership, we hope to expand understanding and empathy for environmental activities and provide the opportunity as many people as possible to take action.”
“Our partnership with Epson represents a united front when it comes to this year’s EARTH HOUR,” says Yves Calmette, Senior Director, Brand and Network Communications for International EARTH HOUR. “Together we can unleash the power of collective action – but we need everyone’s involvement to make it the biggest hour for Earth yet. We want EARTH HOUR to be a moment of celebration for our one shared home – our planet. EARTH HOUR isn’t just about acknowledging the problem, it’s about celebrating the solutions. We want EARTH HOUR to be a beacon of hope, so that we can build a brighter, more sustainable future for all.”
EARTH HOUR and Epson invite everyone this EARTH HOUR to Give an hour for Earth
by embracing a more conscious energy-saving lifestyle.
